1. Scholarship Description: The Glen Leibowitz Scholarship (“the Scholarship”) is a $1,250 one-time award granted annually to one student who submits the winning essay as determined by the scholarship committee. The Scholarship is sponsored by Glen Leibowitz as a philanthropic initiative to support higher education. There is no cost to apply, and no purchase or fee is required.
2. Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled undergraduate or graduate students at an accredited U.S.-based college or university at the time of the application deadline. Enrollment may be full-time or part-time, but the applicant should be in good standing with their institution. There are no restrictions on field of study, nationality (international students studying in the U.S. are eligible), or minimum grade point average. However, applicants must be at least 18 years of age or if under 18, have the consent of a parent or legal guardian to participate (since the scholarship involves providing personal information and possibly receiving funds). The Scholarship is void where prohibited by law. Note: Employees or immediate family members of Glen Leibowitz, or individuals involved in the administration/judging of the scholarship, are not eligible to apply.
3. Application Requirements: To be considered, an applicant must complete the official online application form and submit all required information by the stated deadline. This includes providing accurate personal and academic information and uploading an original essay of 600–700 words responding to the specified prompt. Only one application per person per award year is permitted. Multiple submissions by the same individual (including use of different email addresses or identities) will be disqualified. All essays and application materials must be the original work of the applicant. By entering, the applicant certifies that their essay is their own creation and has not been previously published or won any award. Essays that are found to be plagiarized, published elsewhere, or not written by the applicant will result in immediate disqualification and ineligibility for the Scholarship.
4. Selection of Winner: The scholarship winner will be selected by a committee appointed by Glen Leibowitz. The committee will evaluate eligible essays after the application deadline. Selection criteria include relevance to the prompt, clarity of expression, authenticity and originality of the story, thoughtfulness of reflection, and overall impact or inspiration provided by the essay. The judging process is blind in the initial phase (applicants’ identifying information may be separated from the essays during review to ensure impartiality). The committee’s decisions are final and not subject to appeal. One (1) winner will be chosen for the 2025 cycle, unless the committee determines that no submission meets the minimum standards of quality and relevance, in which case the sponsor reserves the right not to award the scholarship for that year.
5. Notification of Winner: The potential winner will be notified via the contact information provided in the application (e-mail and/or telephone) on or about October 25, 2025. The notification will include instructions on how to verify identity and enrollment. The winner may be required to respond within a specified time frame (for example, 5–7 days) to confirm acceptance of the award and to provide any requested documentation (such as proof of enrollment, student ID, or an enrollment verification letter from their college/university). If the selected winner does not respond within the time allotted, cannot be contacted, or is found to be ineligible or in violation of these terms, the scholarship committee may select an alternate winner (the runner-up) or choose not to award the scholarship for this cycle.
6. Verification and Disbursement of Award: Before disbursing the scholarship funds, the Scholarship may require the winner to provide verification of enrollment at an accredited U.S. institution (e.g., a current class schedule, official enrollment verification, or letter from the registrar). The $1,250 award will typically be paid in the form of a check or electronic transfer. The exact disbursement method will be determined in coordination with the winner for convenience and security. Glen Leibowitz (or the administering entity) can send the payment directly to the winner or, if preferred and feasible, directly to the winner’s college/university student account (to be applied toward tuition or related expenses). No partial scholarships or distributions will be made – the full amount is awarded to the single winner. The award is intended to be used for education-related expenses (such as tuition, fees, books, supplies, or room and board), but there is no strict requirement on how the recipient uses the funds. The winner is responsible for any tax implications of accepting the prize; the sponsor will provide any necessary tax forms (for U.S. residents, a completed IRS Form W-9 may be required from the winner, and a Form 1099-MISC may be issued for the award).
7. Public Announcement and Use of Winner’s Information: By accepting the scholarship, the winner agrees to allow GlenLeibowitzScholarship.com to announce their name, college, and the title or excerpts of their essay on the website and/or in press releases or social media, without additional compensation. We respect the privacy of all applicants; no personal information beyond the winner’s basic details will be made public. Non-winning entries will remain confidential. The winning essay may be published on the scholarship site or related media to showcase the student’s story and inspire others. The winner might also be invited to provide a photo or participate in a short interview or testimonial about receiving the scholarship (this is optional and not a condition of receiving the funds).
8. Originality and Intellectual Property: All submitted essays must be original to the applicant and not infringe on any copyright or intellectual property rights. Applicants retain ownership of their essay. However, by submitting an application, each applicant grants to Glen Leibowitz and the Scholarship program a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and publish the submitted essay (in whole or in part) for purposes of scholarship administration and promotion, such as announcing the winner or highlighting exemplary responses. This license is only applicable if the applicant is selected as the winner or a finalist; other applicants’ essays will not be used or published without explicit permission. The sponsor will not use any essay in a commercial manner beyond publicity for the scholarship itself.
9. General Conditions: The Glen Leibowitz Scholarship is a charitable award and is not an offer of employment or an academic admission offer. No purchase necessary to enter or win. By participating, applicants agree to abide by these Terms and Conditions and the decisions of the scholarship committee. The sponsor (Glen Leibowitz) and any scholarship administrators are not responsible for technical failures or entries not received due to errors in transmission, technical malfunction, or other communications failures. If there is any suspected attempt to tamper with the entry process or to deliberately damage the website or undermine the legitimate operation of the scholarship, the sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any individual responsible and/or to cancel, modify, or suspend the scholarship. Applicants agree not to engage in any fraud or dishonesty in entries; any false information provided within an application or in interaction with the scholarship administrators will result in disqualification and forfeiture of any award.
10. Non-Discrimination Policy: The Scholarship will be awarded in a manner that is fair and free from discrimination. Glen Leibowitz and the selection committee do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, or any other protected characteristic in either the application process or winner selection. All applicants will be judged solely on the content of their essay and adherence to the scholarship rules.
11. Termination or Changes: The sponsor reserves the right to modify or terminate the scholarship at any time for any reason. This could include extending the deadline, changing the amount of the award, or canceling the program in a given year if unforeseen circumstances arise (for example, lack of sufficient qualified entries, website issues, or funding constraints). In the event of any change, appropriate notice will be posted on the official scholarship website. If the scholarship is terminated before the end of an application cycle, any received entries may be considered in a future contest or not at all, at the sponsor’s discretion, and applicants would be informed.
12. Privacy: Personal information collected from applicants will be used only for the purposes of administering the scholarship (reviewing entries, contacting applicants, verifying eligibility, awarding the scholarship) and will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Applicants’ information will not be sold or shared with unrelated third parties. By submitting an application, you consent to the collection and use of your personal data for these purposes.
13. Release and Limitations of Liability: By entering, applicants agree to release and hold harmless Glen Leibowitz, the scholarship committee, and any affiliates or partners involved in the program from any claim, liability, loss, or damage (including but not limited to injury, loss of property, or data breaches) arising from participation in the scholarship or the acceptance, use, or misuse of the award. The sponsor is not liable for any technical issues, miscommunications, or errors that may occur. In no event will Glen Leibowitz or the scholarship administrators be liable for any indirect, punitive, or consequential damages in connection with the scholarship.
14. Acceptance of Terms: Submission of an application to the Glen Leibowitz Scholarship constitutes the applicant’s full and unconditional agreement to all the terms and conditions stated above. Applicants also agree that all decisions of the scholarship committee are final and binding with respect to all matters related to the award. If an applicant does not agree to these terms, they should refrain from applying.
